In today’s music industry, vocal tuning software has become a must for music production. Whether a creative effect or pitch correction, tuning software is used on nearly every modern recording. Antares Auto-Tune has been the industry standard since its release in 1997.

Is Antares Auto-Tune Still Worth It?
Auto-Tune Pro is an audio processor designed to correct the pitch of a vocal or instrumental track. It has been used on countless records by artists like T-Pain, Cher, and Kanye West. The latest version, Auto-Tune Pro, features a more straightforward interface, some fine-tuning to the pitch engine, and the addition of a Classic mode. Auto-Key can also speed up operation when working on unfamiliar material.
No single software is perfect for all applications, and Antares Auto-Tune is no exception. Less expensive options are available if you’re looking for an essential pitch correction tool.
But Antares Auto-Tune is still the best option if you want more control and flexibility over your sound. It’s been used on countless hit recordings over the past two decades and is still the standard by which all other tuning software is measured.

Control Over Your Sound
The producer stared at the screen in frustration. The singer’s voice track was off-pitch, and he needed to fix it before the way was finalized. He reached for his copy of Antares Auto-Tune and began fiddle with the settings.
With a little bit of tweaking, he was finally able to get the singer’s voice track sounding just right. The producer smiled with satisfaction and hit “save.” His track was now ready to be released to the world. We all remember this situation when producing a new track.
Antares Auto-Tune is a pitch correction software that gives you much control over your sound. With other pitch correction plugins, such as Pitch Correction (Logic Pro), Pitch Correct (Cubase) or any of the many third-party Tune-Plugins, it can be challenging to get a pleasing sound because there is not very much you can control in terms of how the plugin tunes a vocal track.
However, with Antares Auto-Tune, getting the sound you want out of your vocal tracks is much easier. With Antares Auto-Tune, you can control how the plugin tunes your vocal track, and you can also control the amount of correction that is applied. This level of control makes Antares Auto-Tune the best pitch correction software on the market.

Auto Mode & Antares Auto-Tune Graph Mode
Antares Auto-Tune offers two different modes: auto mode and graph mode. In auto mode, the software automatically adjusts the pitch of your audio to match the notes you are aiming for. This is great for getting a general idea of how well you are singing, but it can make your vocals sound robotic if overused.
In graph mode, you can manually tune notes that are too far off from the notes you are trying to hit and leave the notes that are close enough entirely unaffected to avoid making them sound too robotic.
Graph mode allows you to see how far off from the target note your original performance was and then manually adjust the pitch of individual notes to get them closer to the target. This allows you to keep your vocals sounding natural while still being able to hit the notes you are aiming for accurately.
Alternatively, the auto mode automatically adjusts your vocals to the selected key and scale. If I am going for a supernatural sound, I use graph mode over messing with the auto mode controls. Antares Auto-Tune offers a lot of flexibility between the two methods to get the exact amount of pitch correction you want on your vocal!
A significant factor in the sound quality of Auto-Tune is the raw vocal performance you are working with. Contrary to what many believe, Auto-Tune cannot take someone with no talent and turn them into amazing singers. This is especially true if you are using Auto-Tune in auto mode. In this mode, the plug-in is essentially “rounding” the pitches being sung up or down to the nearest note.
Being able to select the key of the song in Auto-Tune does narrow down the number of notes it can round to, but the pitch still has to be reasonably close to the note you want to hit; otherwise, it may “round” your pitch to the wrong note, and it will sound ugly. For Auto-Tune to work magic, you must start with excellent vocal performance.
If your pitch is all over the place, or you’re singing out of tune, Auto-Tune will only make it worse. But if you have a good ear for pitch and you’re singing in tune, Auto-Tune can help you sound even better by correcting any slight pitch discrepancies. So if you want to use Auto-Tune, ensure you’re starting with a solid vocal performance. Otherwise, you might be better off just turning it off or you go for a unique Auto-Tune vibe.
