Interference – Playing with #Clouds saved buffers and the #Soma #Ether V2

This could be a ‘part 2’ in my Clouds only series, but I used two with preloaded freeze buffers this time. I knew Clouds or Beads could do this, but it took me over a year to actually use it and I had to look up the ‘save button combo’. Truly, this is the most groundbreaking eurorack module ever and it’s still breathtaking after all this time. I love experimenting with the granular mode and creating evolving soundscapes that morph and shift over time. However, I did encounter some cloud feedback issues when pushing the module to its limits, but a quick adjustment of the settings helped me work around it. Overall, Clouds has continued to inspire and surprise me with its endless sonic possibilities.

At the end of the video (05:22) I patched in the Soma Laboratories Ether V2 that picks up noise, hum and interference that’s all around us. Preparing a separate ‘field recording’ video with the Ether soon because my induction cooking plate makes some great music.

Soma Pulsar-23 with Mutable Instruments

First of all, this video is not about the Pulsar-23. Not really. I have it in pre-order for a while so hopefully, I can offer you a real skydive soon. But I noticed Soma posting a lot of new videos, so I am suspecting it’s on its way to the stores. These videos inspired me to try and ‘recreate’ a 23 on my modular, just to see how far I’d get – and to learn a few Soma tricks along the way. I ended up with a completely alien drum machine you would not expect coming from a Mutable case. The icing on the cake comes from NE Ruina Versio because you can’t have a Pulsar-23 without distortion.

Lom Priezor vs Soma Ether (Electromagnetic Fields)

Recording Electromagnetic Fields with Soma Ether and Lom Priezor. There are several aspects that are different about these electromagnetic recording devices. For example, the size, design, what’s included, and most importantly what types of sounds can be captured.

I’ll take you around and give you hands-on demonstrations of the Priezor and Ether V2. Then we’ll come back home and show you what you can do with a sound file in Cecilia 5!

I just released the brand new SOMA Ether Electromagnetic Sound Sample Library!
It’s a free release and I hope you can use these sounds and get an idea what kind of sounds the Ether V2 creates.
The library contains 53 files, recorded in 192kHz-32 bit and is around 5GB large. These sounds contain frequencies that are beyond 70kHz. Go crazy with it 🙂

I recorded sounds during car driving, on electro supply boxes, Mac Books, lights, toaster, ovens and much more.

For Science | #Maths x 4 = ?

When I got another Maths to complete the modules of the Tape & Microsound – in separates – I felt the eurorack addiction like never before. Who the fork needs four maths. However, four Maths adds up to eight triangle waveform cycles which reminds me of the Lyra-8, and in theory, it’s possible to patch them up so they can feedback on themselves.

I did not go that far, even though I prepared a case with a Lion matrix in it. Having some help from two ModDemix modules was enough to bring them together. As for the addiction, I feel a bit better now. Been there, done that. Now it’s time to let go.
