Erica Synths announced the upcoming availability of SYNTRX.

Erica Synths fews Synthi AKS as one of the most encouraging instruments in experimental music. The company teamed up with engineers from Riga Technical University to develop a synthesizer with a user interface inspired by Synthi AKS.

SYNTRX [sintrex] is developed from scratch all-analog synthesizer (no part of schematics is cloned from Synthi AKS) with digitally controlled patch matrix. Unlike most of the patch matrixes around, that mechanically connect signals, our 16×16 matrix utilizes 32 (!!!) 16 channel analog switch ICs AS16M1 (made in Latvia, Alfa RPAR) and is a mixer/buffered multiple with 3 level attenuation (gain 1, 0,6 and 0,3) in connection points. It has 256 patch memory, automatic patch switching in performance mode or via MIDI messages.

SYNTRX has 3 highly accurate VCOs that track great over 8 octaves, noise generator with “colour” filter, resonant VCF, ring modulator, spring reverb, looping envelope generator, joystick controller, input amplifier with adjustable gain for microphone to line-level signals, 3 VCAs, output signal filter, analogue CV/audio signal level indicator and built-in speakers. Extra features, not found on Synthi AKS, are Sample & Hold circuit with individual clock, octave switch for VCO1, synchronization of VCO2, AD mode on the envelope generator, as well as MIDI that accepts CV, Gate, Modulation wheel messages and program change messages for the matrix control. The SYNTRX comes in an aluminium enclosure with ash tree side panels.

Availability and Pricing

Limited run of SYNTRX will be available at the end of 2019 priced at a premium level of 2500EUR plus VAT.

Get more out of ring modulation & crossfading

Today we go in-depth with the brand new Erica Synths Black Ring-Fade, a eurorack module with two ring modulators, a build-in crossfader, and VCA. Both the ring modulators as well as the crossfader can be used as independent modules, but the internal routing makes it very suitable for advanced creative sound shaping.

In the video we start with an overview of the Black Ring-Fade, and then we dive into a series of patches in three sections. We look at ring modulation patches, crossfader patches, and finally a few patches utilizing all sections of the Ring-Fade.

BLACK DUAL ASR EG

The Black Dual ASR EG is a versatile, full analog looping AD/ASR envelope generator with voltage control over attack and release times, that can also be used as a low-frequency oscillator with a manually and voltage-controlled shape and rate. It has two identical parts, each featuring all typical envelope generator controls and bonus features – the end of the cycle output and bi-polar LFO output. When in loop mode the shortest attack and decay settings turn the module into a voltage-controlled drone oscillator with adjustable waveform (it will not track 1V/oct, though).

Starter Kits – Episode 04

After three episodes of Plaits, it’s time to go analog with the ‘Westcoast inspired Erica Synths Pico System III, Qu-Bit Bloom sequencer, and the insane Desmodus Versio reverb. The workflow is completely different and you’ll have to make your sounds from scratch. It sounds completely different too! Technically, it’s three modules, but Pico System III has 13 ‘pico’ modules stacked away under one faceplate. So it’s definitely a mini-modular with huge potential, but you have to discover it yourself!
