Classic Rock EBX – an EZbass Expansion
2025
Classic Rock EBX
Toontrack has launched the first in a new line of expansions for EZbass – the company’s hugely successful bass guitar virtual instrument which was unleashed earlier this year.
- A meticulously captured classic 1960s bass, optimal for a classic rock tone
- Sampled with both finger and pick options
- Pick option sampled in two different striking positions: neck and bridge
- Includes a wealth of presets for a broad range of rock tones – from dark and muddy to bright and heavily distorted
- Comes with a ‘Clean DI’ (direct input) preset option for all tools and striking positions
- Has a custom MIDI content inspired by classic rock from the ’60s and ’70s
The Classic Rock EBX brings the iconic Fender Precision Bass to the EZbass line-up embodying everything you want from a workhorse of a rock instrument. The thick low end, the soaring harmonics and that bright and articulate sustain that cuts through in any mix without being overpowering. Simply put, this is a bass that oozes rock at the strike of a single note.
Aside from the actual instrument, the EBX also includes a broad selection of presets for all tools and striking options as well as a custom collection of MIDI, making this much more than just a bass sample library – it’s a well of ideas and a true toolbox of sound.
The bass in the Classic Rock EBX was captured with the same scrutiny as the instruments included with the core EZbass library and covers all the subtle articulations you need in order to produce stunningly real performances. In addition to the samples that were recorded using fingers, it also includes two separate striking options for pick – one captured near the bridge and one near the neck. This provides you with three fundamentally different tonal characteristics for the same instrument – from round and mellow to bright and pristinely distinct.
Fretless Is More
The Fretless EBX arrives with a picked instrument, sampled in careful detail to capture all of the certain individual characters. In extension to the sounds, it also includes a broad selection of presets as well as a fashion content of MIDI tailored for fretless playing styles.
When scanning for an optimal fretless bass to sample for an expansion like this, the Toontrack sound design team had an extensive list of boxes it needed to tick. Fabulous craftsmanship and attention to detail were one, a purified and crystalline tone were another and an even and balanced sustain was a third. In the end, the list whittled down to one obvious choice, the brainchild of fretless master player Gary Willis: an Ibanez GWB 1005.*
- A meticulously captured fretless, top-shelf bass
- Includes a collection of presets covering a broad range of tones – from dark and mellow to bright and articulate
- For use in any style where the bass has a prominent role
- Includes a custom MIDI library tailored for the instrument and fretless playing styles
At a glance, one wouldn’t think that removing the seemingly insignificant metal rods that separate the notes on a bass’ fretboard would open up a completely new harmonic panorama and transform it into an almost altogether new instrument. But it does, indeed. The sublime and soaring violin-like character, the near-weightless glissando, the rich, full and hearty sustain and the incredibly unique overall expressiveness are all qualities that make it utterly impossible to mistake it for a traditional bass. A subtle vibrato or just the strike of a single note gives it away.
The fretless bass, the presets and the MIDI you need for flawless composition across the genres.

EZbass – Meet Your New Bass Player
EZbass wants to go above and beyond a traditional sample library to deliver not only natural sound but also structural features that effortlessly let you add bass to your songs. Creativity is the hallmark at the front and center of the EZ Line design. EZbass is no different.
At the core of EZbass is the MIDI and also the opportunity to sell you MIDI packs later. It includes a wealth of various playing ways for all common genres and was designed to give you the broadest possible palette of options. Ultimately, you choose how the bass performs on your song. Of course, all included MIDI can be infinitely customized – without you having to leave the program.
The ‘Bass’ view is the default screen that launches when you start the program. It gives you the visual representation of your selected instrument, a real-time display of the bass notes being played in your performance as well as access to the ‘Effects’ and ‘Tuning’ controls.
The ’Song Track’ is static regardless of which view you’re currently in but can be collapsed and hidden away completely. This is your MIDI hub for anything related to organizing the layout of your song or bass performance. From here, you can also access several fundamental features.
