Deconstructed Piano
Even if the word “Piano“ is included in the Deconstructed Piano (Affiliate Link), this instrument isn’t quite like anything you would expect as a piano. Explore the familiar sound of a piano in a completely new way. Play textures, strikes, hits, and sustained sounds including screws. The variations of this piano are exhausted to the limit.
Deconstructed Piano (Affiliate Link) – the name explains itself. We have disassembled a piano to its soundboard and have worked on this in many different ways: we have played, hit, stroke, and destructed the piano with a wide range of materials. We have used a regular piano hammer, different kinds of mallets such as felt or woolen ones, screws, pieces, sticks, thumbs, and even straws to coax new inspirational harmonic sounds from the instrument.
In order to achieve additional percussive material, we have captured 24 different percussion sounds (recorded in multi round-robin variations) which can be easily mixed to the entire piano sound or just be used separately for experimental purposes.

It includes 7 violins, 2 violas, 7 cellos, and 2 basses in total. The musicians we recorded are german-known sessions and live orchestra musicians. All content was recorded in several recording sessions in our own recording rooms in a close and intimate distance to the instrument in a solo as well as in a trio situation. We have used condenser mics such as Neumann U-87 and TLM 103, Schoeps MK4 as well as dynamic mics such as Sennheiser MD421, AKG D112 among others. Hammered Dulcimer
The Hammered Dulcimer (Affiliate Link) is a stringed instrument with 31 string pairs stretched over a trapezoidal shaped soundbox. Usually, the hammered dulcimer is set on a stand in front of the musician, who holds small wooden mallet hammers to strike the strings.
The dulcimer has two bridges, a bass bridge near the right and a treble bridge on the left side. The bass bridge holds up bass strings, which are played to the left of the bridge. The treble strings can be played on either side of the treble bridge, playing them on the left side gives a note a fifth higher than playing them on the right of the bridge.
The strings of a hammered dulcimer (Affiliate Link) are found in pairs, two strings for each note. Each set of strings is tuned in unison and is called a course. As with a piano, the purpose of using multiple strings per course is to make the instrument louder, although as the courses are rarely in perfect unison, a chorus effect usually results like a mandolin.
