Roland and Studio Electronics Collaborate on Debut of New Roland Boutique Designer Series

se 02 gal

Roland introduces the SE-02 Analog Synthesizer, a collaborative effort from Roland and Studio Electronics, and the debut product of the new Roland Boutique Designer Series. Studio Electronics is a leader in excellence and ingenuity in analog synthesizer design since 1988. Makers of the revered MidiMini, SE-1, ATC-1, Omega 8, CODE 8, Boomstar, and Tonestar, Studio Electronics produces premium-quality musical instruments, hand-built in the USA.

Featuring authentic discrete analog circuitry and hands-on controls for nearly every function, the compact SE-02 allows users to produce classic and modern sounds with vast programmability. The SE-02’s analog synth engine features three voltage-controlled oscillators, a 24 dB low-pass filter, and a dual gain-stage amplifier.

The oscillators have six different waveforms with the warmth and complex character associated with true analog VCOs. In addition, the oscillators are temperature stabilized with automatic tuning to provide solid operation while performing. Other features include three types of cross modulation (XMOD), a filter feedback loop, a temposyncing LFO with nine waveforms, envelope sweeping and inverting, oscillator sync, a noise generator, and a tempo-syncing delay.

The SE-02’s monophonic synthesizer engine features three voltage-controlled oscillators, a voltage-controlled 24 dB low-pass filter, and a dual gain-stage amplifier. The oscillators have six different kinds of waveforms with the warmth and complex character associated with true analog VCOs. What’s more, these VCOs are temperature stabilized with automatic tuning, so you get all the benefits and none of the downsides.

The SE-02 is big and bold, with thick, rich lows and clear, vibrant highs—exactly what you think of when you imagine classic vintage synth tone. And while the SE-02 can create astonishingly great vintage sounds, it can do so much more. It has three types of cross modulation (XMOD), a ripping filter feedback loop, a tempo-syncing LFO with nine waveforms, envelope sweeping and inverting, oscillator sync, a noise generator, and a tempo-syncing delay.

While it’s a compact “go-anywhere” device, the knobs, switches, and buttons are sturdy and plentiful, giving you a vast palette of sound-shaping capabilities at your fingertips. Everything is hands-on and knob-per-function, with deep control and a logical, intuitive layout. To get started, you can choose from 384 expertly programmed preset sounds that cover a wide range of classic and modern tones. Tweak and modify these sounds or create something completely new, storing your own custom creations in the 128 available user locations.

The SE-02 comes equipped with 384 preset sounds that cover a wide range of classic and modern tones. With the large selection of panel controls, users can modify presets or create all-new sounds and store them in 128 available user locations. The SE-02 also includes a 16-step sequencer that can sync to external tempo via MIDI, USB, or trigger input. Per-step gate time, adjustable glide, tempo, and patch number are stored with each sequence, and it’s possible to adjust shuffle, scale, direction, and first/last steps on the fly. Parameters can be automated by pressing a step and moving a control. Users can store 128 sequence patterns and construct 16 songs, each with up to 16 parts.

The SE-02 features standard MIDI jacks for connecting any MIDI keyboard controller. Trigger I/O and CV inputs for pitch and filter frequency allow the SE-02 to work with modular setups and other vintage gear. Routing external audio signals through the filter section is possible, while USB audio/MIDI support provides integration with computer-based setups.

About Karanyi Sounds

Karanyi Sounds is a sample developer company that was founded by award-winning composer, music producer Dani Karanyi in 2018. Over the last 17 years, Dani produced electronic music albums as well as film, animation, video game scores, and TV advertisements. As a pianist, he was always passionate about exploring how to bring life to the digital world of music production and seeking new techniques of sound manipulation. Teamed up with Los Angeles-based composers and other sound designers around Europe, he started to sample his favorite synthesizers and release them as Kontakt instruments with a simple-to-use, intuitive interface. Karanyi Sounds keep developing new inspiring instruments and expanding our repertoire to other sound sources too. Personally, I find the aesthetics mind-blowing outstanding pleasing.

Karanyi Sounds is crafting inspiring, high-quality sample collections in Kontakt format, focusing on film and video game scoring. Their goal is to create sonically rich, detailed and characteristic instruments like (or sometimes unlike than) the original sound sources. The company carefully select these sound sources while they also set up custom analog recording paths and rare combinations of effect chains to create unique, playable instruments. Unconventional recording techniques and sound design are as important parts of the modern music production as melodies and orchestration – so Karanyi Sounds is focusing on moods and characters as well as the sound sources themselves.

CL-Projects joined Triple Spiral Audio

Frank Dierickx from CL-Projects joined Triple Spiral Audio with a beautiful collection of products. Frank created  2 Omnisphere soundsets, 13 Kontakt libraries, and 3 soundbanks for the Roland D50 and Juno Alpha hardware synths.

CL-Projects is Frank Dierickx, a hobby musician & self-made sound designer. CL-Projects saw the light in 2012 with the idea to make patches for hardware and software synthesizers and later on to create sound libraries for the Native Instruments Kontakt sampler. He became interested in sampling because he wanted to use non-synth sounds like realistic choirs in his compositions. Kontakt was ideal for this purpose. He got interested in creating libraries himself, mainly libraries devoted to synthesizer sounds and his experience in programming synthesizers came in handy for creating these Kontakt libraries.

Because Frank’s first libraries (Electronic Expanse and the Pad Factory Series) were well received by friends, he decided to release his libraries to the public for a very economical price. He also creates patch banks for software and hardware synthesizers.

These CL-Projects soundsets, libraries, and soundbanks take you on a fantastic analog sound journey inspired by Jean Michel Jarre, Tangerine Dream, Klaus Schulze, and many others.

Roland Updates the Range of BCB Pedalboards

Roland updated their flagship BCB pedalboard range and added a new model—the premium travel-friendly BCB-1000. The BCB-90X and BCB-30X offer more flexibility for modern pedal layouts and the BCB-1000 is a robust and practical solution for traveling with your pedals.

The world of effects pedals really started to expand in the early 1970s, launching a new era of creative exploration for guitarists. Soon, top touring players and session musicians began commissioning elaborate custom-built rigs to house their effects, and the concept of the modern pedalboard was born. But for the average player, an affordable, off-the-shelf option was virtually non-existent for many years.

That all changed in 1982 when BOSS introduced the BCB-6, a user-configurable pedalboard for the masses. This breakthrough product featured an innovative molded design that was both the board and carrying case, and allowed guitarists to incorporate six compact pedals—plus the new BOSS TU-12 tuner, another milestone product—in an integrated, ready-to-play package.

Adopted by countless players in the decades since BCB pedalboards have continued to evolve to meet their changing needs. The latest BCB lineup is our most versatile and diverse to date, providing trusted BOSS solutions for modern pedal setups and musicians on the move.
